I Got Soul Conference 2008 Announcements: Dallas Visitors & Conventions Bureau, Sonicbids & Malcolm Jamal Warner

IGS 2008 is shaping up to be an exciting weekend of good music, panels and events! They have partnered with Dallas Visitors and Conventions Bureau, City Arts Festival and Sonicbids in the last couple of weeks. The DVCB brought together IGS and City Arts. What this does is give the incoming artist more options than performing in the tribute show and artist showcases. They now have spots in a outdoor festival that has the potential to expose them to 80k over a two-day period. www.dallascvb.com
The Sonicbids partnership(Thanks Fiona) will provide increased accessibility of the IGS talent to other gigs and events nationally and internationally. IGS Talent committee now has the ease of viewing the multiple genre talent on Sonicbids electronic epks. This digital tool bridged enormous gaps for the conference and the talent interested in performing or attending the conference. http://www.sonicbids.com/IGotSoulMusicConference
Malcolm Jamal Warner has signed on to host a IGS event! This multi-talented brother is an actor, spoken word artist and musician. Other talent committed are Eric Roberson, Choklate, Yazarah and Allison Crockett just to name a few. Stay locked for more information soon about the title sponsor.
SXSW Soul Austin, TX
So SXSW has decided that it too appreciates what's going on with the soul scene. Next week there will be 3 nights and 3 venues worth of performances by some amazing artists on the soul music scene. I'm excited about Heavy, Choklate, J-Davey, Yazarah and the other equally amazing artists performing next week. Bavu Blakes, Fiona Bloom(The Bloom Effect) and SXSW partnered for this momentous occassion. NYC owns Sat. w/Russell Taylor, Miz Metro and Maya Azucena. Bavu Blakes will spotlight his ep release. Oooh, I hope I can catch all this good music. Neo Soul Cafe along with Fusicology will be helping to get the word out about these events in Austin.

Badu 's double-disc album
By HILLARY CROSLEYCourtesy of Billboard.com
NEW YORK - Erykah Badu revealed the new title of her fourth album, "Nu AmErykah," to a small room of fans in New York’s Electric Lady studios last Thursday. The set is due Feb. 26 via Universal Motown.
In reference to the prior provisional title, "Kabbah," Badu says that that name was never final and that she prefers to wait and title her albums once they’re finished.
"I named this album Nu AmErykah’ because I’m dealing with whatever is to come instead of what was," said Badu, decked out in jeans, a red kimono and her trademark afro. "In taking on a project like this, I’m taking the responsibility to talk for my race and my planet. I’m sure the record company will make their money and they’ve given me the blessing of time."
Badu’s last EP, "Worldwide Underground," arrived in 2003 without much fanfare, but it still sold 609,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "I didn’t feel like doing the whole promotional circuit for that record," she admitted. "I’d just had a baby."
Making up for lost time, "Nu AmErykah" includes 18 songs that will be spread over two separately sold discs. The first single, "Honey," was produced by 9th Wonder and the 70s soul-tinged "Soldier 7" may be the follow-up track.
"We’ve waited almost 10 years for this album to come," said Universal executive vice president and Motown president Sylvia Rhone. "She inspires, sets trends and does music that no one’s done before. Male, female, black 1/8and 3/8 white can listen to her and come away with something."
Here is the track list for "Nu AmErykah":
"American Promise"
"The Healer"
"Me"
"My People"
"Speech"
"Soldier 7"
"The Cell"
"Twinkle"
"Love Me"
"Honey"
"Emotions"
"Don’t Be Long"
"YPOM"
"Hot Slow Jam"
"Jump Up in the Air"
"Loretta Brown"
"Dirty Dirty"

Neo Soul Cafe Frances Jaye on Michael Baisden's Show

But besides that, I just want to say how much I really appreciate everyone who has come out and supported good music this year! I have been so blessed in 2007 to be able to spin the music that I love and travel and meet a whole lot of cool peeps on the road. I am so thrilled that the world is ready for this! Can you imagine that in 2007 a gang of soul music artists like Ledisi, Dwele, Angie Stone, Chrisette Michelle, Alice Smith, Viktor Dupliax,......(the list goes on) would be nominated for grammys this year! Prayers do work! The world is tired of the brainwashing they call radio.
We have got to come together and stand up and demand that media recognizes that we are thinking, intelligent human beings and can absorb something better than the BS they are playing on our airwaves! Just imagine the day when you have the option to hear artists like Choklate, Rahbi, Eric Roberson, PJ Morton, Purple St James, Carmen Rodgers, Fertile Ground, back to back on a station in your car!!!!! The day is coming. I am praying for it. I have claimed it and it will happen! I believe that with all of my soul.
This year has been filled with firsts for me. The biggest thing is that I fell in love and found my life partner and friend and SOUL mate! Then Velisa and I had the first annual "I got soul" music conference here in Dallas, After that I got to meet some of my fav artists on my travels as a DJ. I went to Las Vegas and met Malcolm Jamal Warner, and one of my favorite artists Sy Smith, and got to spin there, made a new friend and discovered a music lover in Rickey Smiley! Travelled to Detroit for the first ever Soultracks award and Velisa and I gave out the first award at the show for "Best New artist" I could'nt smile hard enough! Got to see Maysa sing live for the first time, and Rahsaan Patterson also. Got to go to Urban Organic's event and see Roy Ayers, then I got to open up for the Roots at the House of Blues and I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!
Now at the end of the year, I get to go to Chicago next week (and it is cold as hell) and spin for the Jet magazine and Pantene tour! Now don't get me wrong, I am not bragging or boasting, I am in awe that God chose me to be a vessel for this music, I would have never believed in a million years that me, Frances, would have this wonderful life. So I say to everyone reading this, go for whatever it is you believe in, and don't let ANYONE tell you NO, YOU CAN"T, or say the word NEVER to you. Those words fall on deaf ears! DO YOU, and do the best you that you can! So please enjoy your holidays and prepare yourself for the best year of your life! I claim it for you and me and everyone ! Support good music and go out wherever you are and support artists that come to your town or city, and give a live show and BUY their music so they can survive and make more good music.
To my new sisters, Yazarah,Choklate,Jodine, Fiona,Carmen,Talibah,Nina,Aysa, Valerie, and of course, my sister for life, Velisa! I say thank you for showing the world that women can work together and make things happen without drama, and do it with class and mutual respect for each other! Let's make "I GOT SOUL 2008" something to talk about! Sorry for rambling, I feel excited about the future. So like I was saying at the beginning, check me out on the Micheal Baisden show tommorow along with Angie Stone, Dwele and Ledisi!!!! I appreciate him for giving me a chance! May whatever God you believe in continue to bless your life and have a Happy Holiday! Also don't drink and drive....................(you might spill your drink) Just kidding
Peace Frances
