The Echelon presents PJ Morton "Walk Alone" 03.12

PJ Morton makes a stop in Dallas to personally host a listening session for his upcoming release "Walk Alone" at the AM/PM Lounge Friday, March 12 from 8pm-10pm.

PJ Morton, a native of New Orleans, LA, most often describes his music as “feel good music that lyrically tells stories about life and love…music that makes your heart think. He coins his style of music, ‘soulful pop’.” This 27-year old musical prodigy is indubitably a “true” seasoned musician who has garnered a reputation for writing and producing warm, heart-felt, and infectious songs that engage the heart. His humble, yet aggressive spirit, along with his prolific musical talents has afforded him with many opportunities to “fall” comfortably into the music industry.
With PJ's background in music, it is no wonder that he has found himself right at home in the music business. Coming from a musical background, PJ got his start singing in the church. He began to play the piano at the age of eight years old and by the age of 14; he was already writing and producing. His dream of becoming an artist began to take shape while he was in high school.

PJ's hard work and dedication to his craft is gaining him national and international notoriety in the music industry. PJ is a Grammy-award winning writer and producer who can be cited for writing and producing for a wide array of artists. His creative prowess allows him to cross all genres of music. He has worked with a range of noteworthy artists from India.Arie to gospel superstar Fred Hammond. He recently teamed up with super producer Jermaine Dupri to co-write for such platinum artists as Jagged Edge, Monica, Heather Headley and LL Cool J. PJ recently won the 2008 Stellar Awards, "Song of the Year" Award.

Having influences that range from Stevie Wonder to James Taylor, PJ reminisces on his childhood. “When I was younger, my mother would put on the Beatles and explain the songs … it made me focus on the writers. I’ve never been drawn to one style of music; it’s always been about the songwriters. That’s why Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Sting and James Taylor touched me so … because of the songs.”

Because of the uniqueness of PJ’s music, one cannot place him in one specific category. He says it best by stating, “Whatever genre you can stick Stevie Wonder or Sting in ….I’ll take that!” He has the necessary ingredients it takes to break new ground….to be a trailblazer! Without so much as a second thought, he will raise the bar in the industry! If one had to use one word to describe him, it would be FREE, because he does not worry about much. In his own words, PJ sums it up, “I just keep moving, because I know that it’s not my fight anyway. So, I just do what I do and let God do the rest!!!”

The Performance Rights Act (S. 379 / H.R. 848) has been voted out of House and Senate committees and is now cleared for a final vote in both congressional chambers. There has been much hype as well as misunderstanding of what passage of this bill would mean for radio stations and recording artists in our country. This media forum will bring legitimate voices to the discussion.
Panelists invited include members of congress, record label representatives, radio station management personnel/music directors, and recording artists.
We will begin with a meet-and-greet at 6:30 pm with the forum starting at 7:00 pm.

The Marcus Graham Project Featured on AdAge.com

I had the unique pleasure of being around Lincoln when he started formulating his vision for The Marcus Graham Project and now I'm so proud of him and everyone involved. This organization is needed in every community in America and I hope that the exposure on AdAge.com increases national awareness of MGP's vision and goals for young men.

11/11/09
NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- How is Eddie Murphy playing a role in a new push to diversify ad agencies? Former agency account exec Lincoln Stephens is both an example and an evangelist of the "Boomerang" effect. A year ago Stephens abruptly quit his Chicago agency job, moved back to his hometown of Dallas and, on a shoestring budget, launched a program to recruit, train and motivate talented young African Americans for advertising agency jobs. Execs at The Richards Group, Imaginuity, Tracy Locke and other Dallas organizations volunteered to mentor participants in his first boot camp sessions.

"The Unseen Mechanism" is Chucky Sly

photo-Marcus Willis

"The Unseen Mechanism"
This past Final Friday at the Liquid Lounge the man that is most wanted when it comes to Dallas collaborations dropped HIS solo debute Chucky Sly "The Unseen Mechanism". This title is so appropriate because Chucky has been unseen in the making of the Dallas Hip Hop scene. He has lent his rap skills and singing voice to many and is the go to guy to bring the island flavor to a project. The new project is a great representation of who he is a artist and the producers he's worked with have done a fantastic job in creating the framework. Don't take my word for it hit the link below and take a listen to the album. I've included the the tracklisting of the men/women who put in work on what I think will be the Dallas Hip Hop album to have from 2009.

I almost forgot: Chuck's performance was epic, he came dressed to impress so I had to kid him and tell him he "wasn't hip hop". He performed like a man on a mission and the Final Friday crowd game him as much love has he's given to the scene. In the house to celebrate the album release were Shabazz 3, DJ Jay*Clipp(True School, Mo Brown (Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights), R.C.(E. Badu music director & Jam Sessions @ Prophet Bar), Pikahsso, Vincent Tucker, Peoples Lunch Counter(Seidah, Rage & Satori), HeadKrack(The Rickey Smiley Show)& the Ra'Koo family. Big thank you to the Aziatik Teem family for holding down the Dallas Hip Hop scene for the past 10 years with the Final Friday event.

Rhianna "Rated R" The Wait is Ova

RIHANNA’s NEW ALBUM - RATED R - HITS MONDAY, NOV. 23rd

**“Russian Roulette,” first new single pick –written by Ne-Yo – launches worldwide Oct. 20th on radio and on official Rihanna website
**“Russian Roulette” video to premiere on ABC-TV
**Long-awaited follow-up to 2007’s worldwide multi-platinum Good Girl Gone Bad

(October 20, 2009 – New York, NY) The wait is ova – for one of the most hotly anticipated new albums in recent history, as multi-platinum, award-winning Def Jam recording artist Rihanna announces the completion of her fourth original studio album, Rated R, scheduled to arrive in the physical and digital marketplace on Monday, November 23rd.

Rated R’s first single pick, “Russian Roulette” will be launched at 11:23am EST on October 20th worldwide on http://rihannanow.com. The “Russian Roulette” video, directed by Anthony Mandler, will premiere in prime-time on ABC.

“Russian Roulette” was written and produced by fellow Def Jam artist Ne-Yo, whose long track record with Rihanna includes the #1 hit “Unfaithful” (2006, from A Girl Like Me), their Top 10 duet “Hate That I Love You” (2007, from Good Girl Gone Bad), and #1 pop/ #1 R&B “Take A Bow” (2008, from Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded). In addition to Ne-Yo, other producers and writers on Rihanna’s new album include the team of The-Dream and Tricky Stewart, Chase & Status, Stargate, Justin Timberlake and more.

Rated R is the long-awaited follow-up to Good Girl Gone Bad (May 2007), which contained the non-stop string of hit singles that began with the MTV VMA and Grammy Award-winning global #1 hit “Umbrella” (featuring Jay-Z), then “Shut Up and Drive,” “Hate That I Love You” (featuring Ne-Yo), and “Don't Stop the Music.” Good Girl Gone Bad spent 98 total weeks on the Soundscan chart, earned cumulative sales of more than 36-times platinum in at least 20 territories around the world, and spun off the CD+DVD package Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded (January 2009) – which continued the string of hits with the #1 “Take A Bow,” and the #1 “Disturbia.”

Good Girl Gone Bad was the third album release in less than two years by the 21-year old Barbados native Rihanna. It followed-up 2006’s RIAA platinum A Girl Like Me, which contained the back-to-back hits, “S.O.S.” and “Unfaithful”; and her RIAA gold debut from 2005, Music Of the Sun, featuring the world-wide smash, “Pon De Replay.”
